Braxton Hill has over twenty-five years’ experience trying cases to juries and judges in state and federal courts throughout Virginia. He has argued appellate matters before the Virginia Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of Virginia and US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Background
Braxton’s practice reflects a wide array of complex litigation matters for clients ranging from individual entrepreneurs to Fortune 300 companies. His cases have involved contract disputes, LLC dissolutions, business torts, trade secret theft, trademark enforcement and patent infringement. He has served as local co-counsel for out-of-state attorneys in various commercial litigation matters, including international investment fraud cases and patent infringement disputes over household products, microelectronics, medical devices, and software development. Braxton’s high-stakes litigation experience includes multi-million dollar contract disputes in the energy and railroad industries and defense of high-exposure lawyers’ professional liability claims. He has also worked on class action matters involving mineral and gas lease royalties and consumer lending law.
An important aspect of Braxton’s work is representation of clients charged with criminal offenses by the federal government. He has been appointed to the Criminal Justice Act Felony Panel by the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and has defended clients at every stage of the federal criminal cycle, including responding to target letters, negotiating pleas, trying contested cases to verdict, arguing sentencing issues to the Fourth Circuit, and briefing motions for post-conviction relief.
Braxton is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Richmond School of Law. After graduation, Braxton served as a law clerk to the judges of the City of Virginia Beach Circuit Court.
Braxton is committed to serving both the legal profession and the broader community. He holds a commission from the Governor of Virginia as a captain (O-3) in the Virginia Defense Force, the all-volunteer state reserve of the Virginia National Guard, serving both as a judge advocate (military attorney) and as the executive officer of the professional services (legal/medical/chaplains) unit. Braxton is the vice chair of the Virginia State Bar’s standing Committee on Lawyer Discipline, and he is a past president of both the Bar Association of the City of Richmond and the John Marshall Inn of Court. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association’s Richmond chapter and on the Board of Governors of the Virginia Bar Association (two terms). Braxton is a former trustee of the Trinity Episcopal School, and he is a subdeacon and former vestry member at St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
Braxton and his wife Stephanie enjoy hiking National Parks and travelling to various beaches, ski resorts, and theme parks – sometimes on their own, but usually accompanied by one or more of their children, Walker (21), Braxton (21), Grace (15), as well as Grace’s grandmother Nancy (92). Along with the children, grandmother, four cats, and one dog, Braxton and Stephanie share an abiding hope that this will be the year that Virginia football retakes the Commonwealth Cup and Virginia men’s basketball makes it back to the Final Four.
