Tim Boykin is a member of Kaleo Legal’s Technology Transactions practice based in the firm’s Richmond, Virginia office. Tim advises technology providers and legal and procurement teams on complex transactions and risk issues involving data privacy, cybersecurity, and AI. Tim strives to help organizations navigate commercial, technical, and regulatory matters with clarity, speed, and practical judgment.
Background
Tim brings a rare blend of deep experience and business and IT fluency to his practice. Before joining Kaleo Legal, he served as Assistant General Counsel at Owens & Minor, a Fortune 500 healthcare logistics and distribution company. There, he partnered closely with the Chief Information Officer and global IT team to support initiatives spanning insourcing, tenant and application consolidation, data center migration, and platform modernization. He also led the commercial legal aspects of internal and technology and analytics solutions, helping the business deploy innovative tools while managing regulatory and operational risk. He assisted procurement to ensure vendor negotiations incorporated proper business terms together with privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and information governance provisions.
Earlier in his career, Tim was the first lawyer at a financial services and technology company. As a member of the senior management team, he built the legal function from the ground up—supporting rapid growth by negotiating SaaS and technology agreements, leading cybersecurity and privacy programs, and streamlining contracting processes to keep pace with the business all within a regulated environment.
Clients value Tim for his approach. He is known for translating complex legal and technical issues into clear, actionable guidance that enables rather than slowing it down. Tim operates as equally comfortable closing critical transactions under tight deadlines, building scalable legal programs, advising on regulatory and dispute matters, collaborating with executives, product and development, and commercial teammates seamlessly, and supporting technology strategy in environments.
Tim earned his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law and his M.B.A. from the University of Richmond Robins School of Business. He holds a B.A. in Public Policy and History from the College of William & Mary. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) and is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Bar Association, and Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Virginia.
